One of mine just errored out.........

First one to post after this gets it..........

[Tosses WU high into the air]

Edit: And the winner was............Paintman1

Anyone know why the server status page says there is 1 WU ready to send even though there is no more work available. It says the same for all projects when they get into this situation......gives us false hope :)

1) I know regular rosetta doesn't utilitize redundancy

2) I know I've seen many posts from users in the regular message boards listing troubled WUs.

3) I know they are low on work in Ralph

4) I don't know how work is generated in Ralph

Given these things, I have an idea. Why not utilize the redundancy, the suspected bad WUs on message board, and the device which doesn't send a copy of the same WU to the same user, and generate say 6 or more copies of each suspect WU and send them out.
This would make more work, let others see if the reported problem exists, and if so on what systems. etc, etc, etc.

All the Ralph Work Units are the same size. This is part of the testing. The only thing that changes is how many structures it will create as it processes. This is a simple function of time. Each structure takes "X" amount of time to create, and the setting in the prefs determines how much time (how many structures) each Work Unit will produce before it is considered to be finished.

This is an ALPHA test project, and you should expect long periods of time where there will be no work available. Each set of work units is run and then examined to see what changes may be required. The examination and any changes required takes some time. Once that is done the next run of Work Units is put out with any changes. Sometimes this also requires a new application which also takes time.

It is not of much value to the testing to put the work units out more than one or two times each. Since there are a limited number in each run, there will be lots of gaps in the work flow.

Please take a moment to read This post for additional information.

Glad it's not just me! Waited 2.5 hrs with 14 'No work from project' messages returned already. In one way it's good we are getting enough volunteers but, on the other hand, please can we have some more work units made available.

I'm running it split 50/50 with rosetta@home, will it automatically keep returning to rosetta units till it finds some work from Ralph? I'd hate my PC to sit doing nothing just because there is no work available from one of the projects.

BOINC will run whatever projects you have attached for which there is work. BOINC will keep track of the fact that it is running one project much more than you have specified, and once the down project comes back BOINC will run that for a while until it catches up. Thus, over the long term BOINC will split up the computers time the way you asked.

THIS IS A TEST PROJECT. THERE WILL BE NO WORK UNITS AVAILABLE AT TIMES. THEY GET ISSUED WHEN NECESSARY FOR TESTING. PLEASE SET THE RESOURCE SHARE LOW FOR THIS TEST PROJECT SO PRODUCTION PROJECTS GET HIGHER PRIORITY

This project is not for science, credits, or other competitive statistics, but only for testing to make our production project, Rosetta@home, better.

Yes it will just keep working on Rosetta until something is available for Ralph. But on a development project there will be long periods of no work available. If the no work messages are a problem you can suspend the Ralph project until work is available, but you may miss the opportunity to grab a few because they will go fast.
