As many are aware, we are starting to test a new application version called Rosetta Mini. This application is a complete restructuring of the rosetta application that is currently running on Rosetta@home.

Please post any bugs regarding the first alpha test versions (versions 1.+) of this application here. We\'ll provide more information about this app in the near future.

is this a kind of clean code of rosetta? removed all the things that have become unusefull and rewritten parts into clearer code??

Yes. exactly correct. The old code was converted from fortran to C++ resulting in fortran-like C++ code that is difficult to develop and contains a lot of duplicate code. Mini is object oriented and designed to simplify development.

Well, good luck, this is indeed a good news. Especially concerming mainainablilty and extensibility of the code.

Do you expect this transition to influence the memory footprint of large Rosetta simulations? Or will it be possible to split the large simulations into smaller ones?

Peter, you mean like it can be ported over to I.e. the ps3 in the future?

How the heck should I know this? Ported - probably yes, for sure. Let it effectively use some/all of the SPEs - would be nice. Get an SPE SDK, plenty of dedicated time, some SPE-experienced programmer(s), cook it long enough and...

                  >> Problems with \"mini\" WU\'s version 1.04.
Have just had 16 of them fail in a row and none of them getting past a few seconds. Missing a file or something like that, error code -1.

Two examples are WU 739359 and WU 740086.

                  Hope this helps.

There was a small batch sent out that was configured incorrectly and thus all the corresponding tasks failed with the missing file message.

This one also seems to be one of them. No graphics and so it is hard to tell if it is working or not. The only indication is from task manager.

all the \"score\" 1.05 WU\'s are failing after 5 seconds with this error
I have had about 4 so far and 4 more to go which I expect will fail as well.

                        Example this WU

Yours is on a Linux host.

My score_13_hb_env_test62_A_1louA_3083_1_0 WU on Windows is already running 45 minutes and does not complain. 1 more to go.

And I see 2 more are waiting on my Linux host. To check for such fast death - I can do it immediately now...

...the score_13_hb_env_test62_A_1bkrA_3084_5_0 WU on Linux is running 5 minutes without crash. Hope to see it continuing this way. 1 more to go.

I\'m assuming the bad batch were the Rosetta Mini 1.04 workunits ? All of the ones I got failed immediately. I only got a single 1.05 workunit and it was successful.

Currently my system is working on a 1.06 workunit and so far it seems to be running ok, with just a little oddity in the task display of Boinc Manager.
I have Ralph configured for 4 hour preferred runtime and the task display shows 2:37:51 cpu time, 63.244%, 7:09:26 to completion.

I have been getting this kind of report continuously over the last few days!

Could you point to any of your failed results? (Hidden computers.)

To be more specific, the URL links to the mentioned results score13_hb_envtest62_A_1tig__3299_3942_0 and score13_hb_envtest62_A_1a19A_3299_3939_0.

I\'m occasionally getting the \"exited with zero status\" mesages too. Last time I suppose (I\'m just making assumptions from logs and task\'s stdout) because exiting Boinc did not notify preempted Ralph task (although it did notify 3 other running/preempted tasks), this did not remove the lock file and 37 seconds after new start few hours later, the task said \"Can\'t acquire lockfile - exiting\" and client said \"Task .... exited with zero status but no \'finished\' file\". (The task was then correctly restarted and crunched until successful end.)

1.08 won\'t run on my Windows W2K.....AMD or Intel, doesn\'t matter.

Is anyone getting good results with W2K?

I\'ve noticed that and will try to fix it today. That is why there has been more failures. A compiler setting must have been changed. sorry about that.

I\'ve noticed that and will try to fix it today. That is why there has been more failures. A compiler setting must have been changed. sorry about that.

I just suspended Rosetta tasks to force some time back to Ralph. It ran another 2.5 min the % complete revised back to 87.7% and it continued crunching.

So that puts the task over the target, and the time remaining is just over 10 minutes, so that % complete is probably just the recomputed 10 minutes deal when task runs long. Now, even after watching for 30 seconds, the % complete hasn\'t budged. (usually, once you are down in the 10min range, the % complete adjusts just a smidge every 5 seconds).

The percent complete will always show that there is 10 minutes left near the end of the run. I\'ve also added the watchdog into mini for the next version update since some users are reporting jobs being stuck (although it is not confirmed that jobs are really getting stuck).

Jobs may appear stuck because the current version of mini only updates the percent complete after a checkpoint is made and checkpoints aren\'t made that often during the full-atom refinement stage. Slower computers can run for hours before a checkpoint is made! However, we will be adding more checkpoints so this doesn\'t happen.

                                                                              - tasks which do consume CPU time, but do not progress (%-wise) for maybe hours (because of not updating it), these might or might not checkpoint and will or will not be preempted after theit timeslot accordingly, and
                                                                              - these which do not consume any CPU time (and do not progress %-wise accordingly :-) but probably still exchange heartbeat messages with the client, so client still leaves them in their latent state, hoping they might checkpoint soon. These \"sleepy\" tasks block one CPU from Boinc computations and might stay in such state until either being manualy suspended (and/)or the client is restarted.

                                                                              Peter

After the last Mini Rosetta 1.08 workunit there was about a day of the usual \'no work from project\' for Ralph and I\'m now getting Rosetta Beta 5.95 workunits (which makes sense since this too is a new client).

Just wondering if Mini Rosetta 1.09 gets the testing it deserves.

Unfortunately the mini application is in constant flux, and someone had changed the name for that option such that my old command line was suddenly outof date without me realising it. I removed the workunits replacing them with the correct command lline as soon as i realised. sorry fir this glitch, it\'s fixed now!

I noticed that the CPU time wasn\'t ticking up once per second as I would have expected. A quick look at top shows that RosettaMini was getting a third of the processing power. Starting and stopping the daemon got the Rosetta app back under control.

At this moment it seems that I won\'t be of any help as I am running Eset nod32 as a virus scanner. Every new version of rosettamini gives new false positives on the Win32/Statik virus.

I have also noticed Eset on this and I hope you two can work this out.

Good luck and I am looking forward to CASP

I just looked in the projects directory and found the missing .zip, inly a second .ZIP was missing ;). In the described thread in there was the residue_types.txt, but if the stupid minirosetta looks for a double-zipped file, it can\'t find any of course.
Opening the .zip was no problem

Stay cool, Edith ;-) the stupid remarks about \"*.zip.zip\" and \"*.zip.ZIP\" belongs to the unzip library (its guesswork for possible typo errors). Example:
                                                                                                                                $ unzip -v archive
unzip: cannot find or open archive, archive.zip or archive.ZIP.

It flashes briefly with some text when you do Show Graphics, then the menu bar goes blank apart from the blue Apple Icon at the left.

My Linux host did get two of yesterday\'s failing 1.10 tasks. Today the scheduler suddenly incorrectly claimed the host lacks enough free disk space:

Message from server: No work sent (there was work but you don\'t have enough disk space allocated)
Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 393.9 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for maximum disk space used.

The host\'s projects occupy 466 MB of the 1 GB reserved for Boinc (on the otherwise nearly empty disk), Ralph took its a bit less than 40 MB. (After writing this message: the complete BOINC/ tree disk usage is 599 MB).

I\'ve enlarged the limit to 1.6 GB - the host suddenly received one new 1.10 task consisting of three downloaded files - alltogether some 5 MBs. Ralph\'s disk usage rose to a bit more than 40 MB.

I\'ll keep the project\'s and task\'s slot disk usage in eye, but do not really believe that the intermediate files would grow to (much) more than 394 MB........ The requested limit must have changed during last few hours.

The Rosetta mini 1.10 again error-ed out with process exited with code 1 (0x1, -255), zip.ZIP error, as mentioned above.

I can imagine the tench\'s are quiet busy these days, however it would nice to see a announcement to tell us Linux users when a reliable (Linux-)WU can be downloaded.

I\'m interested in what Wu\'s will come up the next days,

One was running version 1.10, and the other was running 1.11. Both may have occurred during a task switch, and both machines have been stable for several hours now that I have suspended computation for these tasks. I will run with RALPH suspended for a while longer.
