Learn, Discover, Participate, Build: BOINC Workshop 2021
3 Wednesdays in April: 14, 21, 28
09:00 PDT / 11:00 CDT / 12:00 EDT / 17:00 BST+IST / 18:00 CEST / 19:00 EEST
FREE + ONLINE

BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is an open-source software — and community — that enables volunteers to donate spare processing power from their PCs, laptops, and phones, to power vital scientific and medical research.

Aggregated, these resources enable cutting edge research across mathematics, biology, physics, quantum chemistry, climate prediction and more.

The BOINC Workshop is comprised of three sessions. The first will showcase projects that using BOINC, highlighting the role of citizen participation in advancing scientific research. The second is a forum for BOINC projects to discuss the technology, their accomplishments in the past year, and technical needs moving forward. The third is an open-ended community discussion.

Who should attend?
The BOINC Workshop is for anyone interested in harnessing science, technology, and online community to advance knowledge and effect change.

(*Part of the workshop, “Tech Talks” and “Tutorials” will be focused on people running, or interested in running, BOINC projects.)

Where is the Event? How do I participate? Where do I sign up?
This year’s workshop will be online, via Zoom. Please register to get the event URL.

I’d like to present, who do I contact?
If you’d like to speak on any BOINC-related topic (science, technology, community), please register or contact us.

Can I watch a recording later?
We’ll be posting highlights to YouTube - but to participate in Q&A, and other interactive elements of the workshop, it’s best to join us live :)

If you can see that page, so should the BOINC Manager. Maybe try a full detach and re-attach to this project.

What does the event log have to say about the attach attempt?

AFAIK akismet does not affect profile creation only message board posts. CAPTCHA's can be used for profile/account creation protection. Akismet either needs configured or trained (not sure if it's Bayesian) before it's implemented. For it to automatically deem every post with a certain url/text ratio as spam is just poor implementation.

Yes to both observations made. I knew them before, and now I know it again :)

This akismet is just s**t. Turn it off. Please.

I would agree. Too frustrating. But then how to deal with spam account creation?

Current Example: http://elm.cis.uncw.edu/testBoinc/top_users.php

It would seem that BBCode URL tags are now inoperative. Every time I attempt to use one, the message gets classified as SPAM and refuses to post.

I was able to send this link ( BOINC Synergy ) in a PM to myself. Maybe you can try try again?

Edit test... :)

And... seems like we will have hard times from our new antispam friend akismet.net :-)

Not even an URL to own avatar can be included in a PM to myself:

Peter

I can't include my avatar (or any other avatar from here) in PM's or posts either, but other external images can be sent in both PM's and posts.

The ROSETTA_BETA_4.95_WINDOWS_INTELX86.EXE file is linked to missing export KERNEL32DLL:OpenThread.

So if you are having a lot of errors please reset your Time setting to 2 hours and see if that helps.

I had 120 min switch when i started running ralph and had no errors because boinc never switched apps during ralph computations.
It was only after i set to 5 min switch that error was produced on a small percent of the switches.

A known bug of rosetta is that the application will die when preempted if your general preferences are not set to "Leave applications in memory while preempted."

Seems ok for me on XP. Even after OS reboot, wu's resume properly and are valid.
Will try on 98 soon.
