Posted 11 May 2006 by rbpeake Post: To answer sTrey's question, we're going to put the debugging code back in for the next ralph version (probably in two days) but make it optional -- I'll ask Rom (one of the Boinc developers) to post instructions for how to activate the messages. You may also want to make this optional in the future for Rosetta, too, so that those people who do encounter problems can activate the debugger. This may help to reduce their frustration because they are helping the developers to solve the problem. For the rest of Rosetta users with no problems, they can run the app without the debugger. Just my 2 cents! |

Posted 8 May 2006 by rbpeake Post: I've suggested that if a given application version proves valid, then go ahead and USE the results for the science, and then they could keep a small but steady stream of WUs on Ralph and allow debts to be worked down and make things run more normally... Make sense to me! Thanks for your reply, I will reign in my expectations (and my enthusiasm to some degree) and keep plugging away on Rosetta at the same time. |

Posted 8 May 2006 by rbpeake Post: It's a bit frustrating to sign back onto this project, to find there is no work available. Although I am continuing to crunch Rosetta@home, this lack of Ralph work perhaps gives the impression that Ralph already has enough testers. However, perhaps I am a bit too impatient, and your intent is to send out sufficient work to test your new applications, without creating unnecessary additional "make work" just to keep people busy. I certainly would not want to do "make work" when my resources could be spent elsewhere such as Rosetta@home doing necessary work. Thanks! |

Posted 27 Apr 2006 by rbpeake Post: Meanwhile I've preferred to test with 16-hr runtimes, and I do run other projects.... I wonder this, too. Maybe for each run, Rhiju, you could advise us testers what settings you would like us to use to achieve your goals for that particular run. In other words, what runtime setting would you like, would you also like us to run other projects at the same time, or just run Ralph by itself to get some results back really quickly, etc., etc. In this way we can more directly assist you in achieving your testing objectives. Thanks! |

Posted 25 Apr 2006 by rbpeake Post: For those jobs, we had it set to make a maximum of 10 predictions -- "hit it and quit it". That was mainly so that we'd have some results back quickly. I'm sending out more jobs now, asking for 50 predictions. I have my Preferences set to 8 hours, which I guess is OK if the workunit is set to report at a set time anyway. Or maybe you mean you have overwritten the time preferences, and if it takes longer than 8 hours to get 50 predictions, then that is what it will take? Might be prudent to make this clarification, so people don't get too stressed if their time preferences are ignored for now. :) Thanks! |

Posted 25 Apr 2006 by rbpeake Post: My one 5.04 wu, and one 5.03 wu for that matter, both finished successfully. However I'm wondering why they both finished in under 2 hours when my preference is set to 16 hours and earlier wu's did run for that time. Did you "Update" with BOINC Manager after changing your preferences on the web site? If not, the preferences will not be changed until the client contacts the server. Pardon me if this response is too obvious, but you never know.... :) |

Posted 19 Apr 2006 by rbpeake Post: [color=darkred]RALPH version 5.01 has been release for Windows, Mac and Linux systems. It's nice they are working so quickly on improving the application. I have stopped work on the regular Rosetta@home and put all my resources on Ralph, so as to help come up with a reliable base application as soon as possible. |

Posted 14 Apr 2006 by rbpeake Post: Well, so far under beta 5.0 beta, the HBLR_* and other WUs have completed successfully. So either the problem was nicked, at least for this comp, or well I'll increase the time setting in RALPH and see... Two hour timing works fine for me with 5.0 beta. So far so good. I think a lot of the problems showed up earlier in the previous calculations (where it got stuck), so the fact that I completed two hours with no issues seems to be a good omen. Btw, how do I set my right margin on these forums? My right margin is way off the screen to the right, and it never was like that before. |

Resource share: RALPH instead of Rosetta@home?
(Message 151)
Posted 17 Feb 2006 by rbpeake Post: How should we do it? I run mostly Rosetta because that is the science research application, and put a lower resource share on Ralph. But it is a matter of personal preference of course. :) |
