I was given back control once the download finished. The message log taken from around this time (posted below) looks normal, and there seem to be no long-lasting side effects; just a slight annoyance at not being able to work for a bit. The communication failure at the beginning of the listing was because my DSL connection was still in the process of setting itself up during Ralph's initial request.
