5) Message boards : RALPH@home bug list : Bug reports for 5.96 (Message 4095) Posted 1 Jun 2008 by Odysseus Post: I happened to open Activity Monitor on my dual-G5 Mac (OS v10.4.11) while a task was preëmpted, and it shows rosetta_beta_5.96_powerpc-apple-darwin using slightly over 1% of a CPU—although BOINC Manager (v5.10.45) displays its status as “Waiting to run” (about half done), and other apps, specifically einstein_S5R3 at the moment, show zero CPU usage under the same circumstances. Some kind of ‘thread leak’? FWIW the apps that are running now (at 90+% CPU each) are setiathome-enhanced and astropulse (SETI@home Beta).

BOINC Manager had become unresponsive on failing to get an Internet connection (I think my ISP were tinkering with their servers); after I force-quit it there were still two rosetta_beta threads showing in Activity Manager.

Then there was nothing for the remaining fifteen hours or so, aside from a SETI@home download a few minutes after the above messages were loggedâ€”so apparently it had prevented BOINC from crunching all night. I suspended the task; other projects resumed OK. A little while later I tried resuming the task, and it still seemed stuck, so I quit and relaunched BOINC. The WU seemed to have disappeared without a trace: no log entries indicating an upload or a report. Just to top the strangeness off, the result doesnâ€™t seem to be on the website; I canâ€™t find it anywhere in my account, under that host or elsewhere.

(The percent done was over 98% and continuing to increment.) Exit status 1 (0x1), with the all-too-familiar â€œSIGBUS: bus errorâ€ message in the output file. Once again, the crash occurred either while the display was blacked out (having displayed the screensaver for a minute) or when I interrupted it. BTW this system has always been set to work while in use and to keep apps in memory, so I donâ€™t understand why starting and stopping the graphics should be a problemâ€”if thatâ€™s indeed the case.

My G4/733 (OS 10.3.9) also has returned two v5.65 results without errors.
