Untortunately, with whatever software they're using on this board, you have to remember to manually type [/url] after the link and [url] before it. Many forums I have visited will automatically parse the link for one, so regardless of whether a user knows, or just simply forgets, anything following http:// will be turned into a hyperlink without the user having to type it.
It just means an extra edit if one forgets, but would be more user friendly if the board parsed it without having to be explicitly told...

Yeah, this is what I ran into after updating to 5.4.1... It still didn't do it, so grabbed that. However 5.0 seems to be working (just got a WU in with a 4 hour time setting, so trying 8 hours now). From there, can't say more from a testing standpoint...
BTW, though it is in beta (the CC), and yes this project is an alpha/beta project itself; I can say that LHC was returning results OK, and CPDN seems to be running fine. I also asked on their boards, also explaining the situation over here and reason for grabbing this, and one of the mods on the CPDN project indicated that he tried 5.4.0 and it was working OK on CPDN for him.
Just running seasonal attribution now (to let it catch up), and will see after further testing, but all seems fine, as did when I allowed predictor to grab a few WUs. Others might have issues on some projects, and I haven't tested all I'm connected to. Note also, a few like malaria control I can't get to anyhow, so can't speak for...

Yeah, 5.0 seems to have fixed it thus far... 2 hours 42 min on this WU and still going strong. This is type HBLR_* If it makes it to 4 hours, I might increase the time increment again...
5.0 might be the version to release; but this time, before suggesting this for sure; lets get all WU types we know might come up on this version out there. That way those of us testing it aren't left thinking all is well, only to find a new WU type that proves problematic, as HBLR did 6 days ago...
Next WU will be a FACONTACS_NOFILTERS, so will give more info when it gets to that type...

Yeah, 5.0 is what needs testing, though it shows up as 0 WUs ready to send...
Anyhow, I increased the time setting to 4 hours (which is the default on Rosseta). At 1.5 hours in, the WU seems to be going OK on 5.0... Will check back latter. If it continues, I might increase the time increment again, for the next WU and see where it goes. I've got 5 WUs including the one it's working on, so a little room to play wrt where it might fault...

Well, so far under beta 5.0 beta, the HBLR_* and other WUs have completed successfully. So either the problem was nicked, at least for this comp, or well I'll increase the time setting in RALPH and see...

If per chance, it doesn't (lets keep fingers crossed), and it's a registry value, we could also try manually adding it through registry editor, as long as the specific key, and values and all are known.
Edit: OK, it's installed, I rebooted (even though it didn't ask for one), and have 9 RALPH WUs, using the new 5.0 beta from the look of it...

I've got Windows firewall enabled... For the browser, I do have a local ad blocking proxy setup, but BOINC itself isn't setup to go through "local host: 8080", so don't suspect that should come into play.
Given that BOINC itself is set for a direct connection out to the Internet, about the only 3 things I can think of are:
- Windows firewall in Service Pack 2 set to enabled...
Unfortunately, just blasting a whole through local security on my PC isn't much to my liking. Yes, I have experienced the shananagins from some script kiddies in the past :eek: Perhaps I could make an exception for a program or 2, in the local policies, but wouldn't just want to take PC security down...
- About to expire on the current version but Kaspersky 6.0 Release Candidate.
- networking disabled in BOINC itself at the time it's crashing. Though networking itself is up...

Is your computer offline, when these errors occur on 5.4.1?

No, I've got an aDSL connection that goes through an ethernet card in the computer.
Networking was disabled in the CC on the last couple of WUs, but it was not disabled on the first several (even under the new CC). This was because I resumed the CPDN coupled WU, and want to see how things progress, without allowing it to report back if it goes bonckers/giving myself time to restore a backup of it.
Is that a problem?

It didn't... In Linux however, on this same computer they completed just fine. So it's definitely an in Windows thing...
Since reactivating yesterday I haven't had 1 successful run in Windows, with the only successes in Linux to put this honest.

OK, the HBLR_* WU that got d/l before completed without incident in Linux here. There's one other, and just updated the CC to 5.4.1 under Linux. Anyhow, the problem definitely looks to be in Windows only, and not Linux on this PC. (Note: Both computers listed in my profile are the same box. Just a different OS install, on seperate hard drives, attached through the same SCSI card...)

Actually, in Windows XP (not sure of Linux as I haven't looked into this there), there is a means to get Japanese characters using a US keyboard... Basically it requires setting up IME (input methods editor), and then setting the computer up for multi-lingual support. But basically, when one sets it to the correct language mode for what one wants to type into, typing char combinations will result in the text being converted on the screen, from what one typed to the char (in that case hiragana or katakana) that represents what one typed. It also has a "find kanjii function" to convert the appropriate things into Kanjii...
Many people in Japan (from what I heard in Japanese 201) also use standard English keyboards, rather then Hiragana based keyboards, and then use an IME to just convert the text in software as they type. Main reason, it's faster then a Japanese native keyboard from what I've heard.
That leaves the over-riding problem however, and that is speaking their langauge sufficiently to write a message. Sorry to say, I'm not even fluent enough to do that as of yet...
Oh, and on CPDN, make sure your backup is recent, when going to upgrade, and have networking disabled when it starts CPDN. That way if something does happen, CPDN can't "phone home" and one can restore the WU.... My backup's about 3 months (not actual months, just model months) out of date... That represents a few hours of crunch time or so on my A64...

BTW, did get 2 of the HBLR_* WUs under Linux (yeah I know that's the other thread), but so far so good. The crash seems to be quite specific under Windows, even using the same exact computer/well hardware...
Will see more when it's done...

OK, scratch that idea... There were more then a handful of WUs when I grabbed it in Windows, but they ran out, so the Linux client can't pull any. I'm not normally in Linux, so it would have to be a boot over to a much less used OS, to grab any for cross testing...

In that case, everything will be the same here, but the OS, and see if it throws out any HBLR_* there... Might give some contrast.
