My BOINC client keeps saying communication deferred for RALPH and then in the messages section it says 'NO WORK FROM CLIENT'

Any ideas? I seem to be sliding down in the results league so i presume others have work to process

I've only gotten 1 WU the last 5 days, but then this morning I got 12 of them ... :)

Sometimes the work is just being distributed to a specific platform, i.e., Linux. Early on I found my self in a similar situation, others were getting work but I wasn't and I was dropping down in the stats. Further investigation showed that Linux clients were getting WUs to work on a bug or whatever that affected just them. The Windoze work started back up later and I was again crunching Ralph. The work will come again, probably when you're not looking...

And what I got with the first WUs was "Client error Computing after 12,087.8 sec or about 4 hours in totally wasted crunching time with no CS.

And it's not my fault, I get completed WUs for all other projects.

I'm detaching and I'm out of here

This is a ALPHA Project & errors are to be expected. In fact thats what we are running the Wu's for, to check for errors. If all your worried about is your CS then you would most definitely be better off at another Project ...

You know what is it an alpha or beta application?

I crunched several workunit without success and with 0 credits but i'm happy to help to sort these issues :)

P.S.

to the admins :
I suggest to don't give credits at all. it's meaningless in an alpha project and there will ever be users that will not comprend why the application crash and why there are no workunits

I would also suggest you don't give out credits and say so explicitly on the front page. You must remember that not all of the people that come here speak English as their first language and of course some are new to DC and just don't know what an Alpha or Beta project means.

Though to be fair I think that the "why aren't there any WU's to crunch" is more to do with people trying to help ie. give the project team a kick up the backside saying we are ready to help now give us something to do. I'm not sure if this makes the team solve problems faster, so they can release a new version or use different arguments to the current release, but I can't see it hurting :)

This same person has sulked in a few threads on Alpha/BETA test sites, I don't think the user understands that these type of projects are usually fault finding sessions for WU's and not a site to collect shiny points.

So thats one less point collector here, leaves the rest of the work to us

Sign up for more projects ;) Rosetta itself could use crunching...

BTW, I do have a bit of a question wrt this work shortage myself, but it is in no way a complaint, or a gripe as was referenced above... Do we have a stable version that is working on Rosetta now? Or is there more testing that is comming up the pike? I ask in part because some settings for Rosseta vs. Ralph (aka the remove from memory) weren't entirely compatible, and in part because I'm signed up for so many projects now, I disable/rotate some to keep my Athlon 64 from getting too bogged down... Eh OK, if it takes a couple days to complete some WUs it would still be in deadline, and projects probably wouldn't care. But somewhat out of respect for each, I've tried to keep crunch times down. Meh, I could use an X2 (aka dual proc) sometime down the pike :D

Just wondering if I should start a Rosseta WU now, or if Ralph WUs are going to be need crunching soon, so we can work out some more of the app bugs tis all ;)
