Message 1236 - Posted: 19 Apr 2006, 3:14:10 UTC

I ask because a thread was created to report bugs with 5.01 WUs... However, connecting to the RALPH servers, 5.0 WUs were just downloaded to my comp, not 5.01?

Is anyone getting 5.01 WUs, or is there a mix of both versions on the servers, or hmm?

Well the server application page says "5.01" But there may be a short lag time before the new work units float to the surface.

I have no guidance yet on aborting Version 5.0 Work Units. I suspect from what I am seeing that version 5.01 is already out there, but that someone forgot to change the names and output messages to reflect the new number. I will see what I can find out, and either get back to you myself or get D. Kim to post something.

Humm 5.00 was good enough for me ...
u may finish them to not lose the credits of that ones partially crunched,
however I will abort all my 5.00 WUs that did not started crunching yet,
so, I can start testing the new version 5.01 asap !

ps: Why u did not reported that 5.00 crashed into the 5.00 bugs thread ?
with a link to each result. this way-> url-of-the-crashed-result

Anyway, would be nice Installing the debugger -or- at least upgrading u boinc

HM, only to your info: If they only forgot to change the vers-number, it looks not really good. I saw several WUs crashing, similar like this:

https://ralph.bakerlab.org/workunit.php?wuid=81221

My hosts run cc 5.4.3, but it seems not to have to do with the cc, as I saw in result-files from other users 5.2.13 ...

Carlos, I was on the way to post the errors in 5.00-thread.

But, I run a cache of 0 (!) days and saw, that 5.01 seemed to be out for several hours. So, I expected to see my clients crunch with 5.01 and checked them again, seeing they got fresh 5.00 ...

Sorry, that I didn't upgrade my clients from 5.4.3 to 5.4.4, but since 5.4.4 was announced, I didn't have the time to upgrade :-(

Regarding your post with debugger: I read your post about it, but found it sound very complicated ...

Then, I need to simplify.
Upgrade to latest boinc 5.4.x
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?min_version=5.0&dev=1
-or-
donwnload this debugger - about 13 MB
http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/debuggers/dbg_x86_6.5.3.8.exe
Install it
*after installation,
copy from installation Folder all dll and all yes to u boinc folder
copy *.dll x:boinc_folder
copy *.yes x:boinc_folder
u are done

ps: together with the debugger
comes
tlist.exe
kill.exe
that can be used on cmd prompt to list all running process
and if u want to kill some u may enter kill nnnn where nnnn is the process nbr

A project reset should force the new version 5.01 be downloaded

Having to do this on more than 20 boxes sounds like a lot of work ...

What about the pdb-files for the boinc-components ? Rom had posted that with 5.4.x it should happen automatic, but told me, that he didn't get it work until 5.4.3 ... Using the ms-debugger, would it be necessary to download and deploy pdb-files or is it obsolet then ?

Regarding your suggestion for a projekt-reset: I don't think it is really necessary, normally the clients pickup the new client-versions together with new WUs; so, why do you think a projekt-reset is necassary ?

Hold off on resetting. I have contacted the project to find out what is going on with the version number and what is being tested. Either they will tell me and I will post what I find out or they will post directly. In any case we should have an answer very soon.

Please stand by.

@Carlos

meanwhile they have stopped sending out WUs ...

I used the time to update most clients to 5.4.4 ...

@Moderator9

there have to happen really crazy things before I would reset a project ...

Let's see, what the next turnaround will bring for surprizes ;-)
