And... seems like we will have hard times from our new antispam friend akismet.net :-)

Not even an URL to own avatar can be included in a PM to myself:

Hey! There's a delete my profile button! Many have requested such a feature.

It would seem that BBCode URL tags are now inoperative. Every time I attempt to use one, the message gets classified as SPAM and refuses to post.

I can't include my avatar (or any other avatar from here) in PM's or posts either, but other external images can be sent in both PM's and posts.

I was able to send this link ( BOINC Synergy ) in a PM to myself. Maybe you can try try again?

Edit test... :)

It has to do with the ratio of text to URL. Try appending a bunch of garbage text to your post, and the URL should make it through the SPAM filter. Odd that you need to add SPAM to get past the SPAM filter... =;^)

I've found a workaround for local URLs. If I replace initial "http:/ /ralph.bakerlab.org/" with ":/", it works fine. Maybe some php or BBCode thingy?

"http:/ /ralph.bakerlab.org/user_profile/images/1812_avatar.jpg" would then have to be written as ":/user_profile/images/1812_avatar.jpg" and looks like . Akismet does not kick in.

BTW, I've either unintentionally deleted or not received my email notification for this thread - another issue possibly?

Peter

Does not work again... trying some spaces inside slashes

Pepo,
Tried it, but no joy. Nice idea, though. Wouldn't have thought of that myself. Did you find anything else?

Why not, don't you like it? ;-)
For instance, this is one of your most recent failed tasks. I've written ":/result.php?resultid=669497" instead of the full URL.

It is indeed possible that this notation has real meaning (like URL relative to displayed page's host) in HTTP code or BB code, but I do not know it.

Nice idea, though. Wouldn't have thought of that myself. Did you find anything else?

No, nothing else. The best would be to find out that akismet was either retrained to allow at least local URLs or kicked in ....

My fault, I've noticed it works with IE7, but not with Mozilla family :-(

I would agree. Too frustrating. But then how to deal with spam account creation?

Current Example: http://elm.cis.uncw.edu/testBoinc/top_users.php

AFAIK akismet does not affect profile creation only message board posts. CAPTCHA's can be used for profile/account creation protection. Akismet either needs configured or trained (not sure if it's Bayesian) before it's implemented. For it to automatically deem every post with a certain url/text ratio as spam is just poor implementation.

Yes to both observations made. I knew them before, and now I know it again :)

Just a Thank You to whoever shut off or trained the SPAM filter. I can now use URL's again in posts :D
