1) Message boards : Number crunching : Minirosetta credits (Message 3751)

Post:
Hello all,
Just a newbie at Ralph@home, I have done 8 Wu's so far.
These minirosetta's ran fine, but generated relatively few credits.
It's not I am concerned about my own credits that much (after all this is alpha). But people at Rosetta@home might be disappointed.
Last 8 minirosetta 1.07 average: 5.37 points / hour.
Last 8 Rosetta beta 5.93 average: 9.39 points / hour. (From rosetta@home)
Since I saw the same lower points while crunching minirosetta at rosetta@home / longer runtime I am expecting the points are not lower due to the lower preference runtime at Ralph.
I'm running Windows XP – home on a one-core AMD sempron 3000+ 1.8 G Hz, 1.4 GB RAM.
Somebody else having the same credit experience?

Have a nice day,
Path7.

well i dont know if the creditsystem of ralphy is the same as that of rosy. but in rosy you get the credits for the average of claimed credit so far. so everyone should get the same credit, and if it really takes so long to crunch it, the claimed credit will rise when running on rosy

score13_hb_envtest62_A_1opd__3299_1875_0 is currently Waiting to run with progress 100%. The task files are stil in the slot folder. Deadline is a few days away, so I will see how it goes. Run time so far is 3:10:57. My Target CPU run time is 6 hours.

This is the only RALPH task currently on my system (I have tasks for 6 other projects on board at the moment.)

if there are any other projects pause them, and pause the others takst 2, so its got to crunch this one. then it will finish normally.

I put "Failures last 24h" on ralph. It can be client errors, invalid results, unsent results etc, i.e. everything else with a complete status. I am hesitant to add this to R@h. I'd rather point out the positive than negative for the good of the project. I wonder what other users think.

I have learned my lesson: in Ralph/Rosetta a success is not always a success, and a failure is not always a failure. My native language is not English, but I should think that your "failures" are much more than I personally define as such. Would another word - like noncompletions or whatever - suit everybody's purpose better?

returns without completion/models or something

this is a known problem and discussed already in some other topics, next time first use the mighty [Search forums] button.
contact is made with ESET, the company behind NOD32

IMON Archivo http://ralph.bakerlab.org/download/minirosetta_1.07_windows_intelx86.exe
Probablemente una variante modificada de aplicación Win32/Statik

this has been seen as a false positiv, so it sees it as a virus but it is not one. there is a work around in another thread like this. also the project made contact with the guys of ESET

to day im having time remaining countig up at the exact same speed as time done. so both are counting up but progressbar is filling.

When I said "we", I mainly meant David Anderson. I had to create more workunits for David Anderson to debug the client. Once he was able to get a work unit, he responded right away with the cause and checked in a fix. There are some non-boinc client related issues with mini also.

If you are experiencing this problem, manually remove the minirosetta_database directory in the slots directory.

This is David Anderson's reply:

"Here's what was happening:

The minirosetta app in Ralph unzipped an archive into its slot directory.
This archive (accidentally) included some .svn directories
(Subversion stuff) whose contents were flagged as read-only.

When the job finished or was aborted,
and the BOINC client tried to clean out the slot directory,
the delete of each of these files would fail.
The client would wait for 5 seconds and try again
(it does this because sometimes files are locked temporarily
by virus checkers or other disk-scan apps).
This would happen for each file, resulting in a 10-20 minute period
during which the client and Manager appear hung.

I made two changes that fix this (and hopefully avoid similar
problems in the future) as follows:

1) if a file delete fails with error ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED,
use SetFileAttributes() to clear the read-only flag, then try again.
2) Don't use the 5-second retry mechanism when clearing out
slot directories. These can contain unbounded numbers of files,
and this can lead to long periods where the client appears hung.

Rom, please back-port this to 5.10

-- DPA "

I would still appreciate answers from the project, rather than guessing.

Has this been fixed in the mini tasks and/or application yet?

Was this ever a problem with OSX version?

well that should answer your first question, posted by the staff, in this topic.
and well the second question im not aware of, so maybe you should some OSX users.

wich is what we are helping by uploading data about crashes.

Of course, but that doesn't answer the questions.

then the answer would be that there is not enaugh data yet, or they are working on it, and in the same time theyre gathering as much data as possible about other things that could go wrong.

Right. 5.10.38 is not a fix to the problem. It's a work-around. The problem is with the application, which is where it needs to be fixed.

i set my runtime to 2 hours but yet boinc says the expected runtime is 5,30 hours, so 2.25 times the enforced runtime, this cant be any good, can it?
